How it works

Join, get set up, then practise. Start with text if you want — voice is never required.

  1. Join Écho (one click)

    Click the invite. A “start-here” channel guides you through roles, rules, and your first steps.

    No lengthy sign-up — you’re in straight away.

  2. Pick your level

    Beginner / intermediate / advanced: you get the right channels so you don’t feel lost.

    You’ll only see what actually helps you.

  3. Practise your way

    Post a message, ask for a correction, ask a grammar question, or reply to the exercise of the day.

    It’s normal to start by just reading.

  4. Join voice (if you’d like)

    Voice sessions and activities happen regularly. You can listen first, then speak when you’re ready.

    Many people start by listening.

  • Is it free?

    Yes — joining Écho and taking part is 100% free. No paid access, no hidden fees.

  • What level do I need to join?

    All levels are welcome: from complete beginner (A1) to advanced. You’ll find channels suited to your level.

  • I don’t know Discord — is that a problem?

    Not at all. We’ll guide you with a getting-started channel, and the community can help you get set up.

  • Do I have to speak in voice chat?

    No. You can stick to text, listen first, and speak only when you feel ready.

  • Are there native French speakers who can correct me?

    Yes. Native French speakers and advanced members take part, correct, and also share cultural context.

  • Is it a safe space? How do you handle toxic behaviour?

    We have clear rules and active moderation. You can report issues, and we act quickly to keep the space respectful.

  • When is the community active?

    Écho is international: there’s activity across time zones, and events are organised regularly.
